A Nigerian woman has drawn widespread attention online after she criticised music superstar Davido for appearing on comedian and streamer Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream, arguing that the singer should protect his brand by being selective about such appearances. Her remarks have sparked fresh debate among fans and followers of Afrobeat music and internet culture. 

The comments came after Davido made a surprise appearance on Carter Efe’s Twitch broadcast on December 17, 2025, a livestream that broke records as the most-watched Twitch stream in Africa and drew tens of thousands of viewers. 

Woman Questions Davido’s Decision, Compares Him to Wizkid

In a video clip that has circulated widely on X and Instagram, the woman questioned why an artist of Davido’s global stature would appear on the livestream of a social media content creator like Carter Efe, especially at a time when fan debates about celebrity hierarchy are highly visible online. 

She suggested that Davido’s approach to public appearances and collaborations makes him appear overly accessible and focused on being liked by everyone. In her view, this willingness to participate in a livestream created by a digital entertainer sent the “wrong message” about his star status. 

At one point, she directly compared Davido to fellow Nigerian star Wizkid, who is known for maintaining a more reserved public profile and limited public engagements. The critic said: “That is why I respect Wizkid. You can’t be everywhere. You’re a star; respect yourself.” 

Her comments quickly reignited ongoing debates about celebrity behaviour and reputation, referencing a moment when Carter Efe himself once publicly compared his own appeal to music stars including Wizkid, in a skit that drew reactions online. 

Social media users responded swiftly to the woman’s critique, and opinions quickly diverged. Many fans defended Davido, arguing that his appearance was a gesture of support for a content creator and a positive sign of bridging music and online entertainment. Some pointed out that Davido’s appearance included securing a Martell endorsement deal for Carter Efe live on the stream, an act many described as generous and impactful. 

One commenter wrote: “So Carter is not a human being or what? If Davido doesn’t show up for him, you would still talk. I don’t think anybody’s opinion is needed on how someone chooses to live their life.” 

Others noted that the comparison between Davido and Wizkid reflected personal style more than artistic value, with some saying that Davido’s approachable personality is part of why many fans admire him.
