Ned Nwoko Seeks Police and DSS Action Over Rising Cyber Harassment Campaign

Senator Ned Nwoko has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and the Commissioner of Police Cybercrime Unit following what his team describes as a growing wave of online harassment and coordinated defamatory publications.

In a statement released on his official Twitter page, Senator Nwoko raised alarm over what he called a renewed pattern of cyber stalking and targeted attacks designed to create a false public narrative about his personal life and professional commitments. According to him, the content circulating online appears to be part of a deliberate attempt to manipulate public sentiment and push misleading storylines for reasons that he believes are rooted in ulterior motives.

The statement noted that although the senator remains fully committed to his legislative duties, developmental projects and business responsibilities, he cannot ignore the gravity of the allegations being circulated online. His team explained that while Nwoko rarely pays attention to social media drama, serious accusations must be handled through legal channels rather than emotional outbursts or manipulated public sympathy.

Senator Nwoko Calls For Legal Accountability

In his message, Senator Nwoko cautioned the public about the dangerous pattern of supporting deviant online conduct. He argued that empowering wrongdoers who weaponize social media for false accusations ultimately harms society. He stressed that todayโ€™s target may be one person, but tomorrow it could be anyone else caught in the crossfire of viral misinformation.

His legal representatives have reportedly begun preparing detailed petitions to relevant security agencies. These petitions call for a full investigation into individuals and groups allegedly behind the ongoing defamatory content. The senator noted that all digital footprints will be traced and that anyone found to be responsible will face lawful consequences.

This move reflects a growing trend among high profile Nigerians turning to law enforcement to address cyber harassment. Many public figures have complained about the rise of false allegations, fabricated storylines, and harassment campaigns fueled by social media algorithms that reward sensationalism.

In a notable part of the statement, Nwokoโ€™s team also addressed the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom. They urged both countries to avoid being influenced by what they described as artificial drama aimed at gaining asylum or creating false narratives about the senatorโ€™s family.

According to the statement, any asylum request that relies on fabricated domestic conflict should be dismissed. It encouraged foreign authorities to rely on verified facts and due process rather than sensational claims designed to generate sympathy.

Despite the controversy, the senator emphasised that he remains committed to his work and will continue to maintain dignity and due process. His team encouraged Nigerians to ignore false narratives and allow the legal system to address any wrongdoing.

As the petitions move forward, the case is expected to spark wider discussions about digital safety, defamation laws, and accountability in Nigeriaโ€™s online space.
