Nigerian musician and creative industry figure J. Martins has narrowly avoided serious injury after his car crashed on a major highway in the southeast of Nigeria. The incident happened along the Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway near Ugwuaba, Ohafia in Abia State, where his vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure and veered off into a dense roadside bush.

According to J. Martins, who also serves as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment to the Governor of Abia State, the experience was “terrible” but he emerged without physical injury. “It was a terrible experience, but I thank God for saving me. I came out without a single injury,” he told the media.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle lost control after the brake malfunction and traveled off the expressway at speed before entering the bush. Authorities later moved the damaged car from the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the braking issue has begun.
Industry and Fans React to the Incident

News of the accident triggered an outpouring of concern and relief across social media, with fans and music industry colleagues praising J. Martins’ safe escape and wishing him well. Many messages referenced the severity of the crash and expressed gratitude that the veteran star survived unhurt.
In his statement, J. Martins emphasised the role of providence: “It’s only God that will be praised. My car failed brake and lost control… no one died. But I am running some scans at the hospital,” he said.
As one of Nigeria’s well-known musicians, J. Martins has built a career that spans multiple hit tracks including “Oyoyo,” “Jupa” and “Good or Bad” — and he has collaborated with some of the country’s top artists.
The location of the crash, the Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt Expressway, is a crucial transport route in the region and has been the scene of past accidents. This incident highlights the risks motorists face and the importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety.
While J. Martins is reported to be resting and undergoing medical scans as a precaution, he appears uninjured and in stable condition. His management has not yet issued a further official statement explaining next steps or confirming performances paused during recovery.
