Aspiring filmmakers from all 33 Local Government Areas in Oyo State have been invited to participate. The residency offers hands-on training in multiple areas of film production including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and also the business aspects of filmmaking.

Legendary Nollywood figures such as Tunde Kelani and Joke Silva will serve as mentors alongside Kunle Afolayan. Their involvement is meant to ensure that participants receive guidance not just in technical skill but in artistic discipline and storytelling passion.

The Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, says the partnership reflects a commitment to youth empowerment and strengthening the creative economy. Makinde noted that this initiative helps position Oyo as a centre for creative innovation and opportunity.

In support of infrastructure, the government has been working on improving access to the Film Village facility. One example is approving construction or rehabilitation of roads leading to KAP Film Village & Resort to ensure participants and visitors can reach the location more easily.

Since it was founded in 2021, the KAP Film & Television Academy has delivered training to over 40,000 students across Africa through both online and physical programmes. This new residency is seen as another milestone to deepen practical film education and nurture emerging voices in Nigerian cinema.
