Africa Magic Reaffirms Commitment to Inspiring, Original African Content

At its recent Africa Magic Showcase Screening in Lagos, Africa Magic made clear its renewed vow to deliver stories that do more than entertain. The network is pushing forward with content that inspires, educates, and offers depthโ€”what its top leaders describe as โ€œstories that people will talk about.โ€

Mrs Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, emphasized that Africa Magic is not just interested in high production values, but in relevance. She said every show must โ€œgo beyond entertainment value to convey depth and relevance.โ€  At the Lagos event, Africa Magic unveiled seven new original productions, including Etiti, Mother of the Brides, The Low Priest, Rise Again, and local language series such as Kukoyi, Mgbuka and Sabon Tauraron Arewa.

Victor Aghahowa, Head of Production at MultiChoice, added that the company is actively seeking creators who combine vision with resilience. He noted the challenges of producing content in Nigeria and praised those who persist despite obstacles. โ€œWe look for compelling characters and situations that audiences can relate to,โ€ Aghahowa said, while making clear he values creators who stay the course when things get tough.

This renewed focus on meaningful African narratives comes at a time when viewers are increasingly demanding more than just entertainment. They want stories that reflect the realities of their lives and inspire change. Africa Magic is aiming to meet that demand. With the new slate of shows, the network looks poised to strengthen its role as a platform for authentic storytelling in Africa.
