Piggyvest, Africa’s leading online savings and investing platform, recently announced the launch of PocketApp virtual account numbers for all its users. This significant product development gives the company full control over its payment infrastructure, reducing third-party dependencies and providing faster and more reliable transactions for its almost 6 million registered users.

While this system was foundational to acquiring almost 6 million users and paying out nearly โฆ3 trillion as of today, it also exposed both the company and its users to the vulnerabilities of third-party dependencies. These challenges often resulted in frustrating transaction delays during partner downtimes.

โWhile this worked,โ Odun Eweniyi, the co-founder and COO of the company, wrote in a memo to Piggyvest users, โit also meant that whenever our partners experienced a downtime, deposits sometimes took longer than they should, and we know how frustrating that can be.โ
โOver the past three years, weโve been quietly building our own payment infrastructure to give you faster, more reliable inflows and outflows,โ she added.
This new in-house payment rail is powered by PocketApp, a subsidiary of Piggyvestโs parent company, Piggytech Global Limited. In 2022, Piggytech acquired the social payments app, AbegApp, and has since rebranded it to PocketApp, a CBN-licensed mobile money operator (MMO). As of 2024, the company had processed over โฆ1 trillion and had more than 2.7 million users.
Through its direct connection to the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), PocketApp successfully launched its own dedicated account numbers in August 2025. This infrastructure is the same that now powers payments for Piggyvest, making funding seamless for users across both platforms.
Ibukun Akinola, Director of Payments, Piggyvest, further explained that the new system eliminates the dependency on external partners and their associated bottlenecks for resolving issues. “With this move, we’ve taken full control of our payment infrastructure, and if there are downtimes or issues, we can solve them faster and easier,” she said.ย
All Piggyvest users and PocketApp users have now been assigned dedicated PocketApp account numbers to fund their Piggyvest savings wallets and their PocketApp accounts. “Moving forward, for a faster funding experience, when youโre sending money to your Flex Naira or to your HouseMoney wallets, you can just use the PocketApp account numbers to send that money, and it gets to your wallet, just like that,โ Eweniyi added.
“This is just the beginning,” Joshua Chibueze, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer at Piggyvest,, said. โIn the coming months, we will expand this functionality to other wallets like Safelock and Target Savings, so users can fund them directly through transfers.”
Although the company is only starting with the products within the Piggytech ecosystem, Chibueze also says the vision extends beyond the ecosystem. โThrough our new platform, Piggyvest Business, weโll empower other creators, entrepreneurs, and startups with access to this robust and reliable payment infrastructure, allowing them to build their ventures on the same reliable foundation we’ve built for ourselves.”
For Somto Ifezue, CEO and co-founder of Piggyvest, this marks a pivotal step in Piggyvest’s evolution, especially as the company enters its tenth year. โWeโve taken complete ownership of the entire experience of inflows and outflows to guarantee unmatched reliability to our users. Beyond that, however, this move is also crucial to our companyโs future. It allows us to build a more sustainable and profitable company and continue to deliver the most reliable and secure financial products to our users for years to come,โ Ifezue added.
โThis is the bedrock for our next decade of growth.โ
