FG Increases Allowances for Public Officials

The Federal Government has announced an increase in several allowances for public service officers, including Duty Tour Allowance (DTA), transport, uniform, and overtime allowances.

This decision was made during the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment (NCE), chaired by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack.

The NCE, the top policymaking body for public service matters, includes Heads of Service from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to a report obtained by our correspondent, the councilโ€™s decision followed a two-day technical session led by the Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office.

The session brought together permanent secretaries and directors of establishments from across the country, with the Director of Organisation Design and Development acting as secretary.

During the meeting, 32 memoranda were reviewed. Out of these, six were approved, eight deferred, six rejected, seven referred to the Standing Committee, one noted, and three scheduled for re-presentation.

One of the key approvals was the increase in allowances for public service officers.

A report from the council confirmed the decision, stating, โ€œAn upward review of rates of allowances paid to officers in the Public Service and a comprehensive review of the Schemes of Service to reflect the Councilโ€™s approvals.โ€
