The Presidential candidate for the 2023 Presidential elections representing the Labour Party has said that the recent disputes and war of words between Dangote and some government agencies are deeply troubling. He said the issue is not a political one or a personal one but about the economy of Nigeria as a whole.
Peter Obi who posted these thoughts on his X account said “The recent conflicts between Dangote Industries and some government agencies are deeply troubling. This issue transcends political affiliations and personal grievances. It is fundamentally about Nigeria’s economy, and future,”
The former Anambra State Government pointed out that since Dangote’s contribution to the country was a significant one, the matter should be swiftly resolved by the government.
He said “The refinery has the potential to generate approximately $21 billion in annual revenue and create over 100,000 jobs, with numerous additional positive impacts on the economy. Its strategic importance in addressing Nigeria’s fuel crisis, boosting foreign exchange earnings, and fostering economic growth cannot be overstated. The refinery is too vital to fail and must not be hindered, considering its crucial role in our national welfare.”
Peter Obi said that despite Dongote operating in a challenging business environment, Dangote has established a remarkable industrial hub in Nigeria comprising over 15 sectors, including cement, sugar, salt, fertilizer, infrastructure, tomatoes, automotive, energy, petrochemicals, rice, and poly sacks.
Lastly, he said that with economic indicators like unemployment, forex scarcity, and debt worsening, a sensible and patriotic government ought to regard Dangote’s Industries as a national treasure that merited support and protection.
