In an interesting twist of events, President Joe Biden, the president of the United States of America has announced that he will not be running for a second term of office.
In a letter written and posted on all social media platforms, he said “I believe that it is in the best interest of the part and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling the remainder of my terms as President”
In the letter, he promised to speak to the country later this week concerning the reasons for his sudden decision to quit re-election. There have been speculations about his ability to continue with his reelection nomination and campaign since the debate with Donald Trump on CNN and about his stepping aside for another Democrat to run against Donald Trump in the Presidential election this November.
The question that is currently being asked all over the world is who will get the nomination to run against Donald Trump in November and a couple of names have been thrown around. Some of the speculations have been former First Lady Michelle Obama, former foreign secretary, senator and first lady Hillary Clinton, Robert F Kennedy Jnr, and his Vice President Kamala Harris.
The question remains, who amongst the list above has the popularity and the war chest to run against Donald Trump given how unexpected this development is? Who has the goodwill of the American people given how popular Donald Trump is in America at this moment? Who is as acceptable as he is among the democrat because this is a very critical factor. Following a week that included an assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life, the former president has seen his acceptability rise according to a poll run by ABC News. The same poll also showed that Americans were in favor of Joe Bidden dropping out of the race to be relected. The November presidential elections just got more interesting.
