Okonjo-Iweala Gets The Support Of 79 Countries For WTO Job

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the only African in the upcoming election for the position of the direction-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

In a recent report by THE NATION, she spoke about her chances of winning and per what she said, she is on course to become the director-general.

So far, she has the backing of about 79 countries out of the 164 member countries and these include countries in the African Union.

Now, the contest is between her and South Koreaโ€™s, Yoo Myung-hee. Speaking in a virtual press briefing, she said;

โ€œI feel the wind behind my back. I feel quite confident that across the regions, we will be able to attract support.โ€
