Following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump stating that TikTok would be banned from the United States if it refuses to sell its rights to an American company, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, has made a move in partnering with Oracle in a bid to allow Tiktok continue operating in the US.
Microsoft, who had earlier made a bid to acquire ownership rights in the Chinese company, was rejected by ByteDance as the Chinese company has invited ‘Oracle’ to be its technology partner. Making a comment on its blog, Microsoft said,ย “We are confident our proposal would have been good for TikTok’s users, while protecting national security interests.
“To do this, we would have made significant changes to ensure the service met the highest standards for security, privacy, online safety, and combatting disinformation, and we made these principles clear in our August statement. We look forward to seeing how the service evolves in these important areas.”
The extent of ownership rights Oracle would acquire is not yet known.
