The Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee, a body recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts to make submissions on behalf of the Nigerian film industry, has called for feature film entries from Nollywood producers for the 2021 Academy Awards. The Committee has also announced the deadline for submission, which is October 2, 2020.
Recognizing the recent blockbuster movies released by Nollywood producers, the Chairperson of the Committee, Chineze Anyaene has attested a rapid rise in the quality of Nigerian films, especially in storytelling. Chineze Anyaene also stated that the submission of Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Lion Heart’ for the Oscars Award in 2019 represented a significant moment for the industry and has also opened a new dimension for the industry.
This is a great news for Nollywood filmmakers; as they are now open to better creative opportunities. The 2021 Academy Awards is set to hold on April 25, 2021.
