Tosan Jemide Presents His ‘Tallest Cake in Africa’ Project
After having showcased his skills in several cake and sugar craft exhibitions around the world, the
multiple award winning Cake Maestro, Tosan Jemide, will take on his most challenging project yet.
He has concluded plans to build and exhibit the Tallest Cake in Africa.
CBT has earned the reputation as being the number one cake brand in Nigeria, creating designs that are
exclusively qualitative and aesthetically appealing. It is only natural that continental feats should follow.
The tallest cake in Africa comes on the heels of the country’s centenary celebration. The project would
no doubt project Africa’s sugar craft industry to the spotlight, and particularly cast Nigeria in good
light. It will also serve as a promotional platform for the sugar craft industry as a bonafide art form with
incredible untapped potentials, especially in this part of the world.
The giant cake will be unveiled on Thursday May 16, 2013 at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island
Lagos, in an event that will be attended by government functionaries, captains of industry, cake
enthusiasts, school pupils, friends and fans of Tosan as well as members of the media.
Plans are currently ongoing to capture this feat on Guinness Book of World Records. The cake is a ten
tiered cake designed with a fusion of global, African, Nigerian and Lagos state elements in its artistry.
The proposed height for the cake is about 28 feet; currently, the tallest cake in the world as captured by
the Guinness Book of Records is estimated at about 26 feet.
Members of the public could also come and be part of this historic event. They can view the cake as
well have their pictures taken with the cake. A special portal will be created for the gallery where they
can go and tag themselves for the benefit of their friends and family members near or far.
Selected schools will also be invited on group excursions to the cake which will be on display for three
days, after which it will be taken down to be enjoyed by many children in a cake feast to celebrate the
Children’s Day.
As part of Cakes by Tosan’s corporate social responsibility drive, there will be new cake recipes for
sale at the event, the proceeds from this sale will be channelled towards infrastructural development in
one of the public schools in Lagos. The company has commenced work with its CSR technical partner;
LEAP Africa on this.
