At last, the federal governยญment has re-introduced History as a subject in the primary and secondary schools curricula.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday during an event to mark the re-introduction of the subject, said the move will enยญable children to know their past and work hard to ensure a more united Nigeria.

According to him, the subject, which will be taught in primary and junior secondary schools across the country, was re-inยญtroduced following clamours by stakeholders in the nationโ€™s eduยญcation sector.

He called on experts involved in the re-introduction of the subยญject to develop curricula objecยญtives and contents that will lead to positive learning outcomes. Adยญamu sought for support to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

โ€œI therefore urged all stakeยญholders, state governments, commissioners for education, schools, teachers, and parents to embrace and key into this deยญvelopment and ensure a proper implementation of the History curriculum when it is finally deยญvelopedโ€, he said.

The minister said the reintroยญduction of the subject was also in line with the recent launched Ministry of Educationโ€™s ministeยญrial strategic plan which contains several initiatives and activities to be executed, including the disarยญticulation of Social Studies, addยญing that the plan has gotten the approval of the National Council of Education (NCE).

Earlier, the Executive Secยญretary of the National Educaยญtion Research and Development Council (NERDC), Prof. Ismail Junaid, commended the governยญment for disarticulating History content from Social Studies, sayยญing the move was in line with curยญriculum best practices.
