German Chancellor, Angela Merkel is in Turkey to discuss what is `one of Europe’s biggest problems, the migrant crisis as the Syrian civil war is sending hundreds of thousands of people scampering to European countries for safety.
Today’s drowning of 35 migrants in two separate incidents highlights the scale of the problem as the migrants attempted to reach Greece from Turkey.
24 migrants drowned near Greek island of Lesbos while another 11 people reportedly died in a separate incident further south, near Dikili in Turkey’s Izmir province.
Germany has let in almost 1 million refugees from Syria and she is meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to try to stem the flow of desperate refugees across Europe. Thousands of people remain stranded at the Syrian border while thousands more brave the risk of death to travel in unsafe boats to Greece.
