As a couple of high profile individuals deactivate their accounts, it has become paramount for the social network to evaluate certain issues.
Twitter has faced a couple of challenges, including the long running issues with user harassment as well as the new age phenomenon of “cyber bullying”.
Twitter’s director of Trust and safety, Megan Cristina, has disclosed that Twitter will no longer condone “hateful conduct”.
“The updated language emphasizes that Twitter will not tolerate behavior intended to harass, intimidate, or use fear to silence another user’s voice. As always, we embrace and encourage diverse opinions and beliefs –but we will continue to take action on accounts that cross the line into abuse.” Megan Cristina said in a statement.
Twitter will henceforth suspend accounts which promote violence as well as accounts which threaten people.
Twitter has come under criticisms severally for its weak approach in handling abuse of users.
