The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Alhassan Yakmut has urged to state governments to embrace the commercialization of their sport clubs.
Yakmut, while speaking at the Unilorin Marathon Race, an events organized in commemoration of the 31st convocation and 40th anniversary celebration of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, advocates for the commercialization of Nigerian clubs through Public-Private-Partnership to boost the financial standings of the sport clubs.
The head of the nation’s sports ministry, who is also a former secretary of the defunct Nigeria Premier League, NPL, while lauding the efforts made by the League Management Company, LMC, in improving the standard of the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, especially in the handling of players welfare, says he believes that government’s involvement in club ownership requires a review to meet international standards of league structure.
