According to INEC, a statement is currently circulating on WhatsApp stating that it has extended the period of voting for the presidential and national assembly elections to Sunday, February 26, in 16 states due to violence and late arrival of election materials.

However, INEC has denied the authenticity of the statement and stated that the voting period has not been extended in any state except for voters in areas where polling units did not open at 8:30 am.

Those who were on the queue before 2:30 pm are allowed to vote beyond the 2:30 pm stoppage time.

INEC advised staff and stakeholders to adhere to all government/INEC directives and security advisories regarding the election and promised to provide timely situation reports across the country.
