House Of Reps Passes Bill Enabling Women To Choose Their State of Origin
The House of Representative on Tuesday, passed a bill enabling women to choose their state of origin, with the option of picking from either her father or husband’s state. The bill was passed at the plenary session on Tuesday. The lower legislative chamber amended section 2, part 11 of the principal act and introduced a new section, which now reads: “A married woman shall have the option to lay claim to her State or Local Government of origin for the purpose of implementation of the Federal Character formulae at the National level or State as the case may be.”

The sponsor of the bill, Edward Pwajok, expressed the displeasure in the dilemma women face in choosing a state of origin, most especially for the purpose of appointment or election.
