The youngest ever Nobel prize winner Malala Yousafzai turns 18 today and has chosen to use the day to draw attention to the condition of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
The refugees are camped at the Syrian border in Lebanon. It was also an opportunity to oversee the construction of the Malala Yousafzai All-Girls School to provide education for Syrian girls.
Malala said in a statement; “I am honored to mark my 18th birthday with the brave and inspiring girls of Syria. On this day, I have a message for the leaders of this country, this region and the world–you are failing the Syrian people, especially Syria’s children. This is a heartbreaking tragedy–the world’s worst refugee crisis in decades.”
