The time was 9pm, the day, Sunday April 27th, venue, Ember Creek, Lagos, and the occasion? The fourth anniversary edition of Nigeria’s coolest live concert series, #OneMicNaija.
The event had kicked off earlier on with show hosts, Kel and Kunle KB Bello introducing ‘the bahdest band in the land’ for a jam session which included covers of ‘Double Wahala’ and “Aye”. Then there was Charass with his fashion statement and dance moves and Muna with her impossibly short shorts and a collaboration with Lambogini.
If guests thought the heat could not be turned up any higher, they were in for a shock- Emma Nyra and her yellow dress did just that. In between was the talented Selebobo who premiered his new single, and a very talented Tekno who played the drums, the guitar and the piano…. And then there was what the ladies had been waiting for- Iyanya.
First he came out with this grey tee and his grey pants and the coolest red shoes and it felt like, “Where is the Iyanya with the ripped muscles and toned abs?”.
That question was answered soon enough as the tee came off and the moves came on. And Iyanya got a good run for his money from a few girls in the audience who showed him what their ukwu was made of. He was so impressed that he ‘recruited’ some for a ‘viral video’…
The highlight for many though was the lady whose birthday it was. She was hanging out with her friends when Iyanya came into the crowd and her boyfriend urged her to go with him. She danced for a bit on stage, and then she got a hug from her favorite artiste.
There are always surprises at One Mic Naija, and this is one of the reasons it has become one of the most successful concert series. The hugely popular open mic session also held with the top three going home with prizes courtesy Easy Taxi.
One Mic Naija April Shutdown was supported by Top Radio 90.9, 360 Nobs, AbOriginal Productions, MMMG, Pulse.NG and YSG Hubs.
The next edition is in June and more pictures from the event can be seen via One Mic Naija social media platforms.
