Following a report by the Chadian President, Idriss Deby that notorious Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is no longer in charge of the group, Shekau has produced an audio recording denying the claim.
As speculation over the months mounted over his possible death after he hadn’t appeared in videos, his latest recording has dispelled some speculation.
He pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in his recording and said emphatically, “I am alive,” he said, before adding: “I will only die when the time appointed by Allah comes.” He also denied claims that he was no longer in charge of the terrorist organisation.
The eight minute audio recording comes on the heels of President Buhari’s directive to his service chiefs to bring an end to terrorism in Nigeria.
