Four celebrated Nigerian artistes have confirmed that their albums will be released this June and each of the albums are expected to break the ice and surpass boundaries.
Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun will, most likely, soar higher with a sophomore album, Tiwa Savage will try to titillate her army of fans and hope to win over the doubting Thomas’ – if any exist- with her debut effort, Wande Coal might reclaim his spot as the listening audience’s favourite with his second LP and the Kokomaster himself, the one that has had the privilege of eating from the same bowl with American rapper, Kanye West, Dapo ‘Dbanj’ Oyebanjo, will release his 4th album.
A more indpeth look at the profile of these formidable acts is only proper at this point, so here goes:
WIZKID:
Judging from the success of past materials EME record label signee and owner of Starboy Records, Wizkid, has churned out, the chances that his sophomore effort, expected on June 12, 2013, will be well received are very high. Armed with a fan-base capable of forming a state and running a viable economy, his audience appeal is unrivaled.
The lad also owns his record label, Star Boy Entertainment, has signed producer, Maleek Berry, responsible for The Matter which features Wizkid and recorded colossal success on the radio and different charts across the continent and another producer, Legundary Beatz, responsible for Wizkid’s equally successful Azonto freestyle, EME’s Baddest Boy.
So, will they be able to replicate their magic on some tunes in his forth-coming album?
Wizzy, as he is fondly called, is an ambassador for Pepsi, his picture labelling pet bottles of the soda and was recently named an ambassador for well patronised telecommunications company, MTN. He can readily boast of a form of relationship with International artistes, Young Jeezy, Wale, Tinie Tempah and Akon.
Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage, the Berklee College of Music graduant, has lent her voice as backup for acclaimed international artistes including Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Sting, Spice Girls and co-wrote Fantasia Barrino’s Collard Greens and Cornbread”on the Grammynominated album Back to Me. But, knowing she can do better, she relocated to Lagos,
Nigeria to kick-start a music career and without an album attracted a colony of fans, recorded successful collaborations, signed an endorsement deal with Pepsi and got her contract renewed and signed on to the MAVIN record label, which has headed by a well respected music producer, Don Jazzy, as its first female signee.
Tiwa has also served as a show host for the Nigerian Idol franchise, is quite endearing, an electrifying stage performance and has started shooting a show for the about to be launched Ebony Life TV run by Mo’ Abudu where she co-hosts a talk show alongside Banky W.
The pretty Ms Savage recently invited stakeholders to her album listening party, telling the album is titled Once Upon a Time, has 19 tracks, features Iceberg Slim, Sarkodie, Flavour Don Jazzy and General Pype and will be released, for purchase as from 14th June, 2013.
Wande Coal
Wande Coal is the voice. His talent coupled with the ingenuity of his producer and record label head, Don Jazzy, has acquired for him some level of success such that after a 5 year hiatus since releasing his first album, he managed to come back with singles that are doing well in terms of air-play and charting.
While all of his latest music releases are faring well, the 27 year old is riding the tide well as he is preparing his second album for release in June.
D’Banj
Dapo Oyebanjo, mostly recognized by the name D’banj, needs no introduction to many. His music is so popular and well received, toddlers are known to babble his music and the aged, hum to his tunes. He released his debut album, No Long Thing, in 2005 and since then, he has been a moving train that seems to have no stop. Notable accolades include; Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009 and BET Awards of 2011 for Best International Act; Africa.
To usher in the new album titled D Kings Men, which is being released as a from his record label, DB records, Dbanj has announced a concert to happen on 23, June, in Lagos, that will feature American rapper, 2 Chainz, Fally Ipupa, Olamide 2 Face Idibia, Durella and some others they say.
D Kings Men is the first album from D’banj ever since his exit from Mo’Hits records which he co-owned with producer, Don Jazzy. But will this album, which will lack a Don Jazzy imprint, be as succesful as his previous?
So which album do you think will be successful after it release?
