“…mere appearance on a reality TV show doesn’t make you a star. You alone can make yourself a star.” Chude Jideonwu
The ever interesting MTN Project Fame West Africa has it bigger weekly. Day 18 at the academy wasn’t less than usual in attraction. After the many routines of the day, two very prominent Nigerian social media practitioners were at the academy to speak with contestants. Chude Jideonwu, editor-in-chief of Ynaija.com and ‘Tosin Ajibade, editor of olorisupergal.com were at the house to speak some advice and possible correction of misconception about the social media and the artist.
Olorisupergal and Chude cited Iyanya, one of the past winners of the Project Fame West Africa contest who has maintained almost a flawless loyal outlook in public eye on the social media despite attacks by some crazy fans. Iyanya’s chemistry with fans, especially when he was interviewed by a Nigerian newspaper and he quoted favourite tweets he saved and worked with. His memorising tweets from fans who gave him a piece of advice tied him more closely with supporters.
Twitter as a means of direct communication with fans was restated, among other avenues like Facebook etc. Olorisupergal, who looked dazzling in Ankara attire, corrected the notion of haters while using the social media. Chude noted that those who are perceived as haters are not necessarily haters of an artist’s success but those who have been pulled by the aroma of the fame of the artist. Olorisupergal strengthened that people would always air opinions depending on their choice as humans. Promotion of brand through avenues like Youtube, and some Nigerian blogs were made clear and contestants were adviced to maintain close relations with bloggers. Chude concluded that the mere appearance on a reality TV show doesn’t make anyone a star. You alone can make yourself the star.
