The Jero Plays are two short plays about Brother Jeroboam, the rather less than holy West African “beach divine” created by Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. In this original comedy, the charlatan preacher, burdened by a “cross” known as the daughter of Eve uses Christian superstition for his own salvation. In the sequel, the profit minded “Prophet” thwarts a government attempt to cleanse the beach of all the dubious brethren who ply their trade there. These wonderful plays are scheduled for a four-week season starting 7th July 2013 to 24th July 2013 (Every Sunday).
Directed by Kenneth Uphopho (director/actor), this humorous comedy is set in the days of the “bar beach spectacular”.
It will be performed at the prestigious TerraKulture
The Jero Plays is in English and will have resonance with a wide range of audience of all ages, gender and background. It is dramatic, comic and highly entertaining.
