As the debate rages over whether or not President Muhammadu Buhari should probe corrupt officials in his predecessor’s administration, the Sultan of Sokoto has lent his voice to the debate.
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto has urged President Buhari to probe officials found to have embezzled funds and looted the treasury.
“We are 100 per cent in support of your fight against corruption in this country, and it is our belief that all those found guilty should not only have their entire assets seized and forfeited to government but also face jail sentences,” The Sultan said.
The Sultan was the keynote speaker at the National Security Summit on Community Partnership Approach to Internal Security and Crime Management, organised by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja and President Buhari also attended the event.
The Sultan’s comment is thought to be in response to comments by a member of the National Peace Committee, Bishop Hassan Kukah urging Buhari not to waste time by probing looters. The Bishop has come under a lot of criticism for his recent comments.
