Serena Williams has qualified for the final of Wimbledon after beating Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-4 in what was a rout. Serena never looked in danger against the 13th from the onset and booked a Wimbledon final game against Angelique Kerber on Saturday in a repeat of the 2016 final.
If she wins an eighth Wimbledon title, she would move past Steffi Graf into second place on the list of female Wimbledon champions, and behind nine-time winner, Martina Navratilova.
Williams beat Goerges with a 70 minutes of controlled Tennis which left her opponent flat-footed.
It is Williams fourth tournament since the birth of her daughter, and even the 23 grand slam winner is surprised by how well she is doing.
She said: “It’s crazy. I don’t even know how to feel. I didn’t expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back,” Williams said.
“I had a really tough pregnancy delivery. I had to have multiple surgeries and almost didn’t make it to be honest.
“I’m just enjoying every moment of this. This was not inevitable for me.”
A win against Kerber also puts her on equal footing with Margaret Court who has a record 24 Grand Slams singles titles.
Williams have qualified for at least a grand slam final for the 12 consecutive year.
