The Senate on Wednesday commenced the screening of the seven ministerial nominees transmitted to it by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday last week.
The nominees currently appearing before the Senate Committee are: Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh – Abia State; Umana Okon Umana (Akwa Ibom), Ekumankama Joseph Nkama (Ebonyi); and Goodluck Nnana Opiah (Imo).
Others are Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub (Kano), Ademola Adewole Adegoroye (Ondo) and Odum Odi (Rivers).
“In accordance with section 147 (2) of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended I have the honour to forward the ministerial nominees for confirmation,” Buhari said in a letter to the Senate.
“Copies of their curriculum Vitae are attached herewith. It is my hope that this exercise will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the distinguished members of the senate.”
The nominees when confirmed are to replace ministers who resigned to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election.
Ministers who resigned included Rotimi Ameachi former minister of transport, Ogbonaya Onu, Science and Technology, Senator Godswill Akpabio Niger Delta, Chukwuemeka Nwajuba of education and others.
None of the former ministers made the list.
