Real Madrid has won the Club World Cup for the third consecutive year and for a record fourth time after beating Al Ain in the final.
Luka Modric curled home the opening goal before goals from Marcos Llorente, who hit a stunning 25-yard half volley and a Sergio Ramos goal gave the Spanish side a 3 goal cushion.
Tsukasa Shiotani Al Ain’s lone goal before Yahya Nader’s scored an own goal to take the game beyond Al Ain.
Real were in fine form and could have scored more. Lucas Vazquez hit the post early on and Gareth Bale – who scored a semi-final hat-trick against Kashima Antlers – almost scored another spectacular bicycle kick, but it went just over the bar.
Al Ain beat River Plate on penalties in the semi-final and came into the game trying to follow it up with another famous win, but Madrid laid the marker from the get go and never gave them an inch.
The win is German midfielder Toni Kroos’ five Club World Cup trophies in the last six years after also winning it with Bayern Munich in 2013.
Real now hold the record for most victories in the competition, which was first held in 2000, moving one clear of Spanish rivals Barcelona.
