White House Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders has been interviewed by Special Counsel, Robert Mueller.
In a response to CNN, Sanders said: “The President urged me, like he has everyone in the administration, to fully cooperate with the special counsel. I was happy to voluntarily sit down with them,”
The interview is among the final ones being carried out by the Special Counsel as he looks to round off his investigation into Trump-Russia collusion. Mueller’s team also interviewed former White House Chief of Staff, John Kelly and number of senior staff in the White House includingformer White House communications director Hope Hicks and former press secretary Sean Spicer.
It is believed that the area of interest to Mueller was how Sanders composed statements that defended President Trump regarding the Russia investigation.
Mueller is also believed to be examining Trump’s public statements regarding the investigation and how he sought to influence witnesses to make false statements. One of the example is the statement released in the summer of 2017 about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians, attended by Donald Trump Jr and Jared Kushner.
