The gospels in 140 characters at a time – Pope Benedict tapped out the first tweet from his official account today 12/12/12 after a Vatican official presented him with a tablet and somberly declared, “And now the Pope will tweet!”
“Dear friend, I am pleased to get in touch with you throught Twitter,” the Pope typed to his one million-plus followers. “Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of your from my heart.”
Then the Pope hit Tweet and became the first leader of the Roman Catholic church to wade into the web with a personal Twitter account.
The message from the Holy Father, whose English handle is @Pontifex, was translated simultaneously into seven other languages, including his native German.
