Can you picture a community of people who live in abject poverty? A people who lack the very basic amenities most people in Lagos and Nigeria at large take for granted? Electricity? Clean and drinkable water? A good roof over the head?
The above tease of the imagination is a description of a small locality called the Snake Island. The irony is that it is located in Opebi, just off “Agbaoku street. This village is in a valley but surrounded by mansions and beautiful houses. Sadly, Snake Island has only one actual building constructed with blocks. Others are merely shacks put together with corrugated roofing sheets. Children live in this community too.
Child marriages and teenage pregnancies are quite rampant in this community. Other social issues are found in the midst of these people which is the reason members of Harvest house Christian center Lagos paid a visit to this community on Saturday, the 12th of September. We were able by God’s grace to reach to this community providing back to school items and textbooks for the children, we had medical personnel team from HQ in Ibadan who were joined by our Lagos medical team do checkups, and we counselled them in the word of God. After we were done, the people declared that we didn’t bring church to them like others had done before us, but that we brought God to them.
Let these pictures propel you to action. An act of love and kindness and giving to this community. This is the ministry of Jesus Christ.
