Presidential candidate of the People’s democratic party, Atiku Abubakar has suspended his election campaign for 72 hours, in protest of Buhari’s suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, in a statement said the move was a “dangerous and brazen assault on the constitution” and insisted they was no point of campaigning in an election whose basis has been undermined.
Secondus, who is also the Co-Chairman of the campaign council said that the move to suspend the campaign was in solidarity with Nigerians who are fighting the assault on democracy and the suspension of the constitution.
“In the first instance, we are suspending our campaign for 72 hours. It is our hope that President Buhari will listen to the voice of all lovers of democracy the world over and restore democracy in Nigeria immediately and without qualifications. At the moment, the President has effectively suspended the constitution under whose basis the elections are being contested.” he said.
The PDP Presidential Campaign was scheduled to be in Benue State on Saturday.
