Following the mass killing in Owo church over the weekend, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Jude Arogundade, has confirmed that the total number of fatalities stood at 38.
Arogundade told journalist that:
“many people were taken to private hospitals. Even some people came to take the bodies of their loved ones. We are trying to trace those people so that we can have a recount for all,”
noting that the figure that “we can account for presently is 38.”
Recall, gunmen had on Sunday attacked the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, the hometown of the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, leaving many parishioners d£@d and several others injured.
Moreover, a source in the church told newsmen a final decision has not been reached as the diocese is considering mass burial for the victims of the massacre whose bodies have not been identified or claimed by relatives, adding that the church will notify the public on when the mass burial will be done.
