How can we combine our love for Twitter, music, popular culture, poetry and literature into an event? That would be something with piano notes, book readings and rapid fire conversations that move from faith and relationships to entrepreneurship and sexuality. This was the idea for ‘Otherness, the book reading + event for Osisiye Tafa’s debut novel, ‘Sixty Percent of a True Story’.
According to Osisiye, ‘I wanted an event that could flow like a (well curated) Timeline. I wanted the punch, the ease, the spontaneity and that magic’. ‘Otherness’ was an intimate event at the Terra Kulture Reading Room. It held on Saturday, July 25, 2015. There was a constant ambience of piano notes and soulful renditions by OB Jazz, spoken word performances by Oyin Braitwaithe and Williams Moore, readings by the author and conversations.
If you missed this event, look out for Osisiye’s next book reading + event, ‘A Matter of Taste’, a cake and cocktail tasting event spiced with book reading all taking place within an ambience of soulful music in the serene workspace of CapitalSquare.
‘Sixty Percent of a True Story’ is a window into the different realities of three undergraduates. The story weaves through three Nigerian states, a university, a presidential campaign, the fleshpots of Lagos and startling personal choices to an unpredictable end. The book is available at Terra Kulture, Laterna or online at Konga and Amazon.
