The year 2015 will no doubt remain a very historic one for Nigeria as a result of the political activities most especially the General elections which shaped the year under review.
olorisupergal.com in its usual way of reviewing the activities that rocked the year takes a round-up survey of some Entertainers that participated in the Electoral year and how they fared either through their Ambitions, Supports, Campaigns and/or affiliations to the political players.
Below are our top ten gainers
DESMOND ELLIOT: The Nigerian Actor, Director cum politician who has starred in over two hundred films and a number of television shows and soap operas. Elliot declared his intentions in September 2014 to run for the Lagos State House Of Assembly under the All Progressives Congree, APC. He contested and won the Surulere Constituency in the April 11, 2015 General Elections.
DAYO ‘D1’ ADENEYE: Although he couldn’t get the party ticket to contest for Ogun State House of Assembly from his home town, D1 is no doubt a gainer as he was recently appointed Ogun State Commissioner for Information by the State Governor Ibikunle Amosun. This is not suprising as the Odogbolu born journalist was prior to the elections appointed a member of the campaign team for the re-election bid of Governor Amosun under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
9ICE: is a Nigerian musician. Although 9ice revealed his intention to contest for a political office in his native Ogbomosho in Oyo state, he later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he contested for a seat at the Federal House of Representatives. He however lost out during the primaries but was named Special Adviser to the Oyo state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
IYANYA: Although the ‘Kukure’ crooner did not contest for any elective political office, he is however a beneficiary of the 2015 election as he has just been appointed Cross-River State Ambassador by the State Governor Benedict Ayade. This appointment comes with an official Car, monthly salary and an office. Iyanya no doubt got this mouth-watering appointment as a result of his closeness and support for the Peoples Democratic Party led government in Cross-River State.
KATE HENSHAW: The award winning thespian lost her ticket to represent the Calabar South Federal Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, Henshaw made our list of gainers when she was recently appointed Special Adviser, Liaison by the Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade.
In a related vein, it is fitting to mention some other entertainers who though neither contested nor got any political appointments, but may be said to be potential gainers by reason of the victory of the candidates they supported. The current tenure is only seven months old, they might in the long run bag their own portion of the political lot. 2016 is surely a year to watch out for in this respect.
FEMI ADEBAYO: The award winning Actor, Comedian, MC and recently Musician cannot deny the fact that the 2015 elections did bring good tidings to his camp. Femi, fondly called JELILI by his teeming fans didn’t contest for any post but was very active during the electioneering year as he was always seen around the campaign convoy of Kwara State Governor Alhaji Abdul-fatah Ahmed.
Femi also produced television and radio jingles in support of the candidature of Governor Ahmed. The victory of Alhaji Abdul-fatah Ahmed as Governor of Kwara State for a second term on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, no doubt is a big achievement to the thespian.
OLAMIDE: Just like Femi Adebayo, Olamide also released some songs which he used to campaign for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the All Progressives Congress, APC. Badoo can never deny the fact that he is already reaping the fruits of his effort for the APC as major chieftains of the APC now associate themselves with the rapper, a vivid example was when former lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola graced the naming ceremony of olamide’s baby earlier in the year.
GBENGA ADEYINKA: The ace comedian too didn’t contest at the 2015 elections, but was always present in the campaign rallies of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the compere. He still enjoys his affiliation to the APC as he now comperes most of their public functions which no doubt makes him smile to the bank.
FUNKE AKINDELE: Jenifa as she is fondly called did not hide her support for the All Progressives Congress, APC during the 2015 general elections as she was fond of campaigning for some APC candidates on her social media pages during the electioneering period.
INNOCENT ‘2FACE’ IDIBIA: 2face Idibia has no doubt proven to us all that he remains one of the greatest gifts to this country. Unlike other entertainers who affiliated themselves to one Political party or the other, the ‘African Queen’ Crooner distinguished himself by helping in promoting a peaceful 2015 general election. He did this by releasing a song titled VOTE NOT FIGHT, which he used to remind all that No politician is worth dying for. Tuface is already reaping the fruit of his involvement in the 2015 elections as he was recently awarded the chieftaincy title ‘Tafidan Kudendan of Kudendan’ meaning ‘Ambassador of Peace’ by His Royal Highness Galadima of Kudendan Chiefdom for his role in the Vote. Not Fight campaign during the electioneering period. As the saying goes; ‘a good name is better is to be chosen rather than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold’, 2baba seems to have earned this for himself.
