Former Vice President of World Bank, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has unveiled her new party, Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN and has also emerged as it Presidential candidate.
The former Education Minister was elected at the national convention of the party which took place on Saturday.
The National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima, while speaking to the press thanked the Ezekwesili for choosing the party. He said: “We appreciate Mrs Ezekwesili for pitching her tent with the party and we have resolved to work with her.”
In her acceptance speech, Ezekwesili said 2019 is a defining moment in the history of the country and that the country could no longer afford to have mediocres as leaders.
She said: “Enough is now enough; we have decided that Nigeria will no longer accept a leadership of mediocres, which has kept it down and allowed wanton and senseless waste of innocent lives.
“I bring a message of hope to you, that I and millions of supporters will march in solidarity to ensure that Nigeria gets a new and focused leadership in 2019.”
Ezekwesili who served first as Minister for Minerals and then later as Education Minister between 2000 and 2007 has promised to reform NNPC and also focus on job creation and human capital development if elected.
