After Conor McGregor hinted that he might retire from Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Nurmagomedov, like many fighters didn’t believe him.
In an interview in Moscow, Nurmagomedov said: “Conor acts like a jealous wife who says ‘I will leave’ all the time but then comes back.”
In reply, McGregor tweeted: “Your wife is a towel, mate,” McGregor added a photo from Nurmagomedov’s wedding in which the bride’s head and face are covered.
Although he backtracked by deleting said tweet, and then walking back on his assertions with a later tweet that reads:
“I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds. All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all.
“Now see you in the Octagon.”, Nurmagomedov, like many who have criticised him are having none of it.
Nurmagomedov, a practising Muslim responded: “If you think that insulting entire religion you be safe, you are mistaken.”
The UFC who suspended both fighters following the brawl that took place after their fight have branded the saga “unacceptable”.
President Dana White in a statement published on the company’s website said: “I am aware of the recent social media exchange between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.
“The ongoing situation has escalated to a level that is unacceptable. As such, we are taking the necessary steps to reach out to both athlete camps and this situation is being addressed by all parties internally.”
