Nigerian award winning comic writer Nnedi Okorafor has been commissioned by Marvel Comics to write a standalone book for Black Panther character ‘Shuri’.
Shuri’ iss the younger sister of lead character T’Challa in the very successful movie Black Panther. The role of Shuri was played by American actor Letita Wright, while T’Challa was played by Chadwick Boseman.
Okorafor, the Nebula-award-winning author of the Binti and Akata series also recently wrote the Spiderman cross-over series about the Wakanda all female bodyguards, set in Lagos.
Okorafor took to Twitter to share the news, writing: ‘Black Panther: Long Live the King and Wakanda Forever’,
“Announcement: I am writing Shuri. Black Panther’s sister is getting her own comic book series and it is happening so so soon.”
Marvel Comics also confirmed the news on their official website:
“SHURI will bring a domestic conflict to the princess’s table.
“While she is the most at home in her lab, working to keep her country at the forefront of science and technology, Wakanda is missing its leader.
“Without T’Challa around, Shuri will have to decide if she will forego her own passions in order to stand up for her nation,”
