Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped from the Clinton Correction facility in daring fashion on June 6. The search for the convicted felons lasted 23 days and ended in a shootout with police which claimed the life of Richard Matt, David Sweat survived a gunshot wound.
The daring escape prompted a shake up as well as an investigation as to the method in which the prisoners managed the escape.
Two employees of the facility, Joyce Mitchell and Gene Palmer were immediately charged with helping the prisoners escape. Gene Palmer has been released on bail as authorities speculate he knew nothing about the escape plan.
Joyce Mitchell,51, was arraigned in New York today where she entered a guilty plea to charges of first-degree promoting prison contraband, a felony, and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal facilitation.
She faces a possible jail time of 21 years after admitting to providing hacksaw blades, chisels, a punch tool and a screwdriver to Matt.
