Michelle Obama’s autobiography, Becoming is on its way to become the most successful memoir in publishing history after the publisher said it has sold over 10m copies to date.
Thomas Rabe, the chief executive of German media group Bertelsmann, who owns Penguin Random House hailed the book as “highly profitable.”
“We believe that these memoirs could well become the most successful memoir ever,” he said.
The publisher won an intense bidding war for the rights to Barack and Michelle Obama’s autobiographies in 2017, reportedly paying a record $65m with the couple.
The book sold 725,000 copies in its first day on its way to being the highest selling book of the year.
Bertelsmann’s group revenue grew by 3 per cent to €17.7bn for 2018,
