Year 2012 is almost rounding off and I’m not so sure you can remember the Top Reality Shows that rocked the year. Let me take you through this:
Nigeria’s Got Talent
Nigeria’s Got Talent is a reality television series (also known as NGT) sponsored by Airtel Nigeria, and part of the global Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent franchise. It is a talent show that aims to feature singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers of all ages competing for the advertised top prize of N10,000,000 (Ten million naira).
In the just concluded show, eight years old Amarachi Uyanne emerged the winner of the first-ever Nigeria’s Got Talent.
Amarachi, a dancer from Benin City, Edo State, dusted off competition from nine other contestants and was crowned winner in front of a studio audience today, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the grand finale held at Bamako Studios, Ikeja, Lagos.
Super Mom Reality Show (season 3)
The TV reality show started in 2010 and the winner smiled home with a house while the first runner-up went home with a car and the second runner-up smiled to the bank with Five Hundred Thousand Naira.
This year’s edition is a bit different as we had the mothers of some celebrities in Nigeria in the reality show, it was tagged “Supermom Celebrity Edition”, the show began airing on May 26th 2012.
After thirteen weeks of voting, Gladys Asuquo, mother of the award winning singer,song writer, and producer, Cobhams Asuquo, won Supermom Celebrity Edition.
The former clerical officer in the Nigerian Army clinched the winning prize of N2m after earning the highest votes by fans and followers of the ten finalists.
According to the executive producer of the show, Sola Fajobi, she is expected to donate her cash prize to a charity of her choice and would be treated to an all-expense paid trip to Dubai.
Fuji music star, Abass Akande Obesere’s mother, Taibat Omobonike, emerged first runner up while Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment rapper, Skales’ mother, was second runner up. They both get N1m and N500, 000 cash respectively which would also be donated to a charity of choice and an all-expense paid trip to Dubai.
Gulder Ultimate Show (season 9)
Gulder Ultimate Search a reality TV show which debuted in 2004, had its ninth edition of the show in Usaka forest in Akwa-Ibom State.
Nollywood actor, Chidi Mokeme, anchored this year’s edition, after being absent for six editions. Past winners of Gulder Ultimate Search Reality TV show, Chris Okagbue (GUS 8), Dominic Mudabia (GUS 4) and Michael Nwachukwu (GUS 5),were selected to act as the gatekeepers of this edition.
Edo State-born Paschal Eronmose, on Friday, November 16, 2012, emerged the winner of Nigeria’s premier TV reality show. Paschal narrowly edged out Onyinye Udodi, who was the last female contestant standing of the competition.
Maltina Dance All (season 6)
The Maltina Dance All (MDA) conceptualised as a unique platform with the passion to entertain, bond and encourage the restoration of values to the family, has indeed encapsulated the interest of consumers and television viewers across the country in a manner no other consumer engagement platform has consistently achieved in Nigeria. It is the first Nigerian family reality show.
Sometime in Sept. 2012, after weeks of thrilling performances, hectic rehearsals, and a lot of laughter, the Green family has emerged winners of the sixth season of Maltina Dance All TV show, walking away with N6m and a brand new Toyota Avensis.
The Greens were announced as winners at a grand finale which took place at the Expo Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites.
The Green family beat four other families Efiokwu, Boyle, Zibe and Eghove that had qualified for the grand finale. The end of the performance saw the Green family emerge winners after garnering the largest votes from Nigerians, with Efiokwu and Eghove families as the first and second runners taking home N1m and N500, 000 respectively.
MTN Project Fame (season 5)
MTN Project Fame West Africa is a reality music show. This year, 15 contestants made it to the academy from a wide pool of potentially famous young stars from off screen auditions. Auditions were held in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and selected states in Nigeria.
MTN Project Fame West Africa season talent show winner has emerged and it goes to Ayobami Ayoola aka Ayo.
Ayobami, a 25 year old personal assistant to a renowned saxophonist Mike Aremu edged out other finalists to win the top prize last night, Saturday, September 29, 2012 which the grand finale show will be broadcast today.
The first runner-up position went to Marvellous, second runner-up to Adetoun and third runner-up by Ella.
