The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards honored the best in U.S. prime time television programming from June 1, 2016 until May 31, 2017, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The ceremony was held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California, and was broadcast in the U.S. by CBS. The ceremony was hosted by Stephen Colbert.
Master of None’s” Lena Waithe made history at the 69th Emmy Awards on Sunday, Lena Waithe became the first black woman ever to win in the category of writing for a comedy series.
Lena Waithe is an American actress, producer, and screenwriter, best known for her role as Denise on the 2015 Netflix series Master of None. She co-wrote the “Thanksgiving” episode with “Master of None” co-creator Aziz Ansari. Her nomination also marked the first time a black woman was nominated for a comedy writing Emmy.
Alec Baldwin, who won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category, said playing Trump had impacted his personal life.
During the ceremony, The Handmaid’s Tale became the first web television series to win the award for Outstanding Drama Series.
Elisabeth Moss also won her first Emmy after nine nominations, a popular choice for best actress in a drama series for The Handmaid’s Tale.
Nicole Kidman won Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie with the movie Big little lies a host of other actors and actresses were awarded at the event.
