Amid the recent rise of citizens trooping out in large numbers to register for the Permanent Voters Card (PVC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released additional data-capturing machines to different states across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye emphasized that the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) met on Thursday over the sudden surge in applications and the challenges citizens face during registration.
Okoye stated that in view of the surge a total of 209 machines were released to the five South-Eastern States, Lagos and Kano, where the pressure is most acute.
The electoral umpire in the statement further assured Nigerians that every step will be taken to enfranchise every eligible citizen “who is 18 years of age and above has the constitutional right to register and vote in any part of the country he/she resides without hindrance.”
