Following the decision of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to fine Guinness the sum of N1 billion for various regulatory infractions, Guinness Nigeria has hit back.
In a letter from the company secretary, Guinness Nigeria has argued that NAFDAC’s fine has no legal basis. “We don’t understand the basis for the computation of the administrative charges nor the particular regulations alleged to have been infringed,” The company said in a letter by the company secretary, Sesan Sobowale.
The letter went ahead to state that “we have been advised that there is no legal basis for the demand for the payment of the said sum”.
NAFDAC’s fine on Guinness is as a result of the company revalidating expired products without permission as well the destruction of expired raw materials without NAFDAC’s supervision.
