The President Of the German Football Association, Wolfgang Niersbach, has resigned following allegations of corruption and tax evasion.
The German Football Association reportedly made a payment of 6.7m euro (£4.9m) payment to Fifa as a bribe to facilitate Germany’s 2006 world cup bid.
Niersbach has denied any knowledge of the bribe payment and said “I would like to make it clear unmistakably once again that I had absolutely no knowledge of the background of the flow of payments that are being looked into.”
The World football governing body, FIFA, has been mired in allegations of corruption all year long culminating in the suspension of FIFA president as well as Secretary General.
