To prevent traders in Ladipo auto-spare parts market from returning to the road, the Federal Government, yesterday, started reclamation of the right of way with landscape work along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.?
?This followed the evacuation of a hindrance on the area by Lagos State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Task Force), led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Shola Jejeloye on Sunday.?
?
Also, the task force, who were posted at the market with trucks, arrested some recalcitrant commercial motorcyclists plying the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.?
?
Consultant to Hitech Construction Company Limited, Ayodele Bada, told reporters that work will start in the place to prevent traders from returning to the road.?
?
He said: “Consequent to the improvement of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, this is another phase in the work. Lighting is coming up. So, this aspect we are undertaking is the landscape work. 45 meters from the edge of the road belongs to the government. So, we are doing the landscape work. All the illicit activities along the corridor will give way.?
?
“What existed before was that the people were bartering on the right of way, but it will no longer happen.?
?
“There were companies all along and there were no trading activities in front of them. So, this should also be the same; the traders should stick to the designated area for trading and not on the road.” On the duration of the project, he said: “The project will take two months for completion.”?
