Governor of Ekiti State, Dr, Kayode Fayemi says the state will henceforth arrests the parents of pupils found hawking during school hours.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, made this known on Sunday in Ado Ekiti.
The Governor asked parents to take advantage of the free education policy of his administration. The aim is to reduce the number of out-of-school children and return the state to its position as the Nigeria’s ‘Fountain of Knowledge’.
He also said the current school enrolment rate of 55% as against 96% recorded in 2014 was unacceptable and something must be done urgently.
He noted that it was the Government’s responsibilities to ensure that children and youth, who he described as the future of the nation, were properly groomed through qualitative education.
Fayemi also said that his administration would soon commence recruitment of competent and qualified teachers who would help to raise the standard of education in the state.
