The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Egypt will host the 2019 African Cup of nations. The North African country beat South Africa to the right by 16 votes to 1 at a CAF Executive Committee.
South Africa was the only other nation to show interest in hosting the tournament after Cameroon was stripped of the right.
The 2019 African Cup of nations was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. Cameroon were however stripped of the hosting right for inadequate and delay in preparations.
Egypt has hosted the African Cup of nations on four occasions (1957, 1974, 1986 and 2006) previously. On the four occasions the country have hosted the competition, they have only failed to win the title once, in 1974.
The Egyptian FA had sent a delegation led by its Football Federation President, Hany Abo Rida to CAF Committee meeting ahead of the announcement. Others include Ahmed Megahed, Karam Kordy and Magdy Abel Ghany.
Cameroon are the defending champions after beating Egypt 2-1 in the 2017 final hosted by Gabon.
Egypt has the most title with seven.
