The Nigerian basketball team, dubbed “D’Tigers” have tasted success at this year’s edition of the 2015 FIBA Afrobasket Championship hosted by Tunisia.
D’Tigers faced a familiar foe in the finals, having faced Angola in the past, who are famous for their defensive discipline. D’Tigers defeated Senegal to get to the final knowing that a win against Angola guaranteed automatic qualification for the Rio Olympics in 2016.
It is the first time the Basketball team has qualified for the final in 12 years and the weight of expectation could be felt all around.
Today, the Nigerians proved to be too much for the Angolans, winning 75-64 to clinch the title. It is the first time the Nigerian national basketball team have ever won the tournament.
Congratulations to team Nigeria.
